The PharmacoEconomics Research Centre (PERC) was established in 1992,formalising an informal tri-partite collaborative arrangement between theuniversities of St Andrews and Dundee and Tayside Health Board, which hadstarted in 1986. PharmacoEconomics is an inter-disciplinary area, whichrequires expertise in Health Economics, Health Care Management, Pharmacology,Epidemiology, Pharmacy, Psychology and other branches of medicine and thesocial sciences. The Centre is also part of the MRC funded centre for HealthServices research (CHeSeR), together with the universities of Dundee, Bristol,York and Aberdeen. The aim of PERC is to maintain its leading position as aninternationally recognised organisation providing multidisciplinary research toaddress technical, medical, and economic analysis of pharmaceutical and otherhealth technology products.

Furthermore, this thesis provides pharmacoeconomic evidence that NOACs may present a valuable alternative to VKAs for thromboprophylaxis in the Dutch setting.AB - In this thesis, some of the methodological challenges in simulating and synthesizing pharmacoeconomic evidence in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention were assessed and potential solutions to those challenges were proposed.

This includes a set of recommendations for enhancing the robustness of pharmacoeconomic analyses that apply CVD risk prediction models.

Dr. Fatemeh Soleymani (Secretary/Treasurer of Iran Chapter) successfully obtained the PhD in Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Management from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Tehran University. Dr. Soleymani is the first to achieve this degree from the Tehran University, and the first woman to graduate from Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Management in Iran. The title of her thesis was "Assessing the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of audit and feedback on physician’s prescribing indicators: a randomized trial with economic evaluation”. Dr. Soleymani was supervised by Dr. Arash Rashidian, and her advisers were Prof. Rassoul Dinarvand and Prof. Abbas KebriaeeZadeh.

In conclusion, several studies in this thesis emphasize that standardizing methodological requirements and recommendations for conducting and reporting pharmacoeconomic studies in CVD prevention including the ones proposed in this thesis may enhance the quality and validity of pharmacoeconomic evidence and reduce possible bias.
