15th International Congress of Photosynthesis

This series of international congresses is one of the most exciting and important meetings in photosynthesis. In keeping with its tradition, the 15th Congress will feature eminent plenary speakers and state-of-the-art symposium speakers who are at the cutting edge of discovery in their fields and provide an exciting scientific program which will cover the breadth and depth of photosynthesis from molecular to global. The 15th Congress will provide a forum for students, postdoctoral fellows and scientists from all over the world to deepen their knowledge and understanding, widen professional contact and create new opportunities, including establishing new collaborations.
Beijing is a vibrant modern city with a long and rich history, especially noted for its many historical sites, such as the Great Wall and Imperial Palace. It is a great city with excellent art galleries, museums,theatres, restaurants and gardens. The Congress venue will be the Friendship Hotel of Beijing which is one of the largest garden-style hotels in Asia with convenient facilities.

From 7 to 12 August 2016, the Dutch city of Maastricht will host the prestigious International Congress on Photosynthesis, where global photosynthesis experts will share and discuss the latest developments in the field. It is the first time that the congress will take place in the Netherlands, underlining the important position of the country in international research on this subject. The triennial congress of the International Society of Photosynthesis Research is highly renowned, and it is an honour that Herbert van Amerongen of Wageningen UR and Roberta Croce of the VU University in Amsterdam get to organise the event.
15th International Congress on Photosynthesis
The opening ceremony was hosted by the current Executive Chairman of the International Congress of Photosynthesis committee, the vice director of Institute of Botany, CAS, Dr. Lixin Zhang. The Chairwoman of the International Congress of Photosynthesis committee, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, professor of the Institute of Botany, CAS, Pro. Tingyun Kuang announced the opening of the congress and addressed the ceremony. She expressed her warm welcome to the guests from all over the world and showed her gratitude to the units, organizations and companies which support our Congress and all the speakers and organizers. After that the vice president and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jinghai Li represented the Academy to address the ceremony. He stated the importance of photosynthesis for agriculture and resources and introduced its position in the ‘Solar Energy Plan’ of our academy. The director of the Institute of Botany, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jingyun Fang represented IBCAS the organizer to give a speech. Director Fang introduced the current situation and the history of the photosynthesis research of the Institute. And he wished the Congress’s complete success. At last the President of International Society of Photosynthesis Research, Dr. James Barber addressed the greetings. He reviewed the progress in history of the International Photosynthesis Congress and spoke highly of the organization of the present Congress.

The overall organization of the congress will be co-chaired by Dr. Robert Blankenship from Washington University in St. Louis and Dr. Donald Ort from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and USDA/ARS. Four major committees will be responsible for all aspects of the planning of the congress. These include a , chaired by Donald Ort, a Fundraising, , chaired by Robert Blankenship, a and an appointed by the International Society of Photosynthesis Research.
Rotorua to host international congress on photosynthesis
The current International Photosynthesis Congress is sponsored by the IBCAS and the International Society of Photosynthesis Research (ISPR). It lasts for six days. The photosynthesis Research —— Food, Fuel and Future is the theme of this Congress. About one thousand participants from 42 countries joined it. The Nobel Chemistry Prize winner, Dr. John Walker, and 14 other international distinguished specialists are invited to give plenary lectures. The Congress contained 26 research fields and 134 symposia. 576 summaries and more than 500 posters has been received.
