The aim of this department is to train researchers and specialists to be capable of applying current economic theories to practical issues and policy design to various aspects of the contemporary economy. It offers a wide variety of special fields. Fiscal policy and public economics, financial institutions and monetary policy, industrial organization and economics of law, international trade and global finance, labor economics and social policy, urban studies and transportation economics, economic development and area studies are among the fields studied. Students in this department are expected to choose a few of these special fields and work on them intensively after having mastered the basics of economic theory and statistical analysis. For students who major in Advanced Microeconomics or Advanced Macroeconomics, we have started to offer a program in which students could acquire degrees with using as English as the main language. A special screening will be conducted for this particular program.

Undergraduate Honors Theses | Department of Economics

The Ph.D. in Economics and Public Policy is aimed at producing new scholars and policy-makers to address critical issues centered on economic development, the rising demand for energy associated with economic growth , and the environmental and climate consequences of such progress. The program blends training in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics with an understanding of institutional detail and political economy, giving students the tools necessary to address questions in economic development, energy and environmental policy within an interdisciplinary framework that is needed for policy effectiveness. Dissertation research under faculty guidance will further train students in the practice of independent and original scholarship.

The program includes three required, two-term core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and statistics-econometrics. These will typically be followed by field courses in the areas of development, energy and environmental policy, and political economy. Suggested coursework and research schedules for completion of the degree are shown below.

Thesis For Masters In Economics

The MA program is a 30-credit program that consists of advanced coursework in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematical Economics, and Econometrics, plus five additional electives that are chosen based on the student’s interests. The program includes both thesis (Plan A) and non-thesis (Plan B) options. (This program is undergoing revision and not accepting applications for Fall 2017.)

The MSQE program is designed as a professional degree program that combines graduate level training in economics with strong training in quantitative and data analytical methods. It is a three semester (30-credit) program that qualifies as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) degree due to its quantitative course requirements.
