Li () hypothesized that a single cancercell can be considered a CSC as long as it can: a) develop into atumor and b) its filial generation can inherit its biologicalfeatures. They cultured CD133 colorectal cancermonoplast cells and analyzed the invasive andmetastatic capabilities of CD133 single cell-derivedprogenies (SCPs) in a nude mouse model. They found thatCD133 SCPs were more likely to produced tumors afternude mice transplantation compared with CD133 SCPs, andthat CD133 cells were heterogeneous in invasion andmetastasis and . They concluded thatcolorectal CSCs constitute a diverse subpopulation.

Limitations of anti-angiogenic therapy have beenreported (,). Although preclinical and clinicalstudies have established that anti-angiogenic therapies haveantitumoral effects and survival benefits, there are studiesshowing that tumor cells can develop multiple mechanisms ofresistance, which can increase tumor invasion and distantmetastasis.
